Episode 50: Why Do We Try to Separate Mental and Physical Health?

I sometimes think we are living in a bizarro world where people try to separate mental and physical health as if they aren’t closely correlated.

I see a lot of people who struggle with their mental health and it’s often because their physical health is causing them all kinds of problems.

I also know people who have been in therapy FOR YEARS, and never once has their therapist or psychiatrist recommended paying attention to their diet or getting exercise as a means to help their mental state.

There’s a ton of research to support the fact that exercise is more effective as an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety solution than any medication.

So why is it not common practice to treat individuals as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms we treat individually?

Well in today’s episode, I discuss just that.

Enjoy!
